Liturgical day: Monday 13th in Ordinary Time

Gospel text (Mt 8,18-22): «Master, I will follow you wherever you go». Jesus said to him, «Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head». When Jesus saw the crowd press around him, Jesus gave orders to cross to the other shore. A teacher of the Law approached him and said, «Master, I will follow you wherever you go». Jesus said to him, «Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head». Another disciple said to him, «Lord, let me go and bury my father first». But Jesus answered him, «Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead».

Today a scribe launches with determined enthusiasm to follow Jesus. In fact, the Lord expects each one of us to take that decision. It may seem something too drastic, set aside only for some "enlightened"... But it is not so! It is not a question of going "very far". So where should we follow Him? Wherever we are: at home, at work, in our pastime...

"Where you do have to get very far is in love. But ..., in your life, in your home, in your school, do you have "nests" of selfishness and "dens" of comfort? He who hides, does not respond!
