Liturgical day: Friday 33rd in Ordinary Time

Gospel text (Lk 19,45-48): Jesus entered the Temple area and began to drive out the merchants. And He said to them, «God says in the Scriptures: ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’: but you have turned it into a den of robbers». Jesus entered the Temple area and began to drive out the merchants. And He said to them, «God says in the Scriptures: ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’: but you have turned it into a den of robbers».Jesus was teaching every day in the Temple. The chief priests and teachers of the Law wanted to kill him and the elders of the Jews as well, but they were unable to do anything, for all the people were listening to him and hanging on his words.

Today this serious warning from Jesus is a most timely one. The warning is still valid! In many areas of western society the sense of the sacred has weakened. In some places, weddings (or funerals, or First Communions) are more like a stadium (or a convention hall) than a temple. The less we pray, the more we talk!

-When Jesus became displeased in the Temple (2,000 years ago), He wasn’t yet present through the Eucharist. Now He is. Imagine what a disappointment for Him!
