Liturgical day: Monday 5th in Ordinary Time

Gospel text (Mk 6,53-56): Wherever He went, to villages, towns or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplace and begged him to let them touch just the fringe of his cloak. And all who touched him were cured. Having crossed the lake, Jesus and his disciples came ashore at Gennesaret where they tied up the boat. As soon as they landed, people recognized Jesus and ran to spread the news throughout the countryside. Wherever He was they brought to him the sick lying on their mats. And wherever He went, to villages, towns or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplace and begged him to let them touch just the fringe of his cloak. And all who touched him were cured.

Today, Jesus has sailed across the lake of Genesaret. When He put His foot on the shore people from all over the place gathered to meet Him. Healing was available for all, no matter what they might be suffering from! They only had to touch Him! They did not even need to tell Him what their sorrows were!

-Look: “they asked Him to let them touch…” How much have things changed! Now, in the Eucharist, we not only touch Him but we also “eat Him”. And we touch not only His Humanity but also His Divinity. And, He tells us all, “Come unto me”. Jesus is longing to embrace you!
