Liturgical day: Saturday 2nd of Advent

Gospel text (Mt 17,10-13): As they were coming down the mountainside, the disciples then asked Jesus, «Why do the teachers of the Law say that Elijah must come first?». As they were coming down the mountainside, the disciples then asked Jesus, «Why do the teachers of the Law say that Elijah must come first?». And Jesus answered, «So it is: first comes Elijah to set everything as it has to be. But I tell you, Elijah has already come and they did not recognize him, but treated him as they pleased. And they will also make the Son of Man suffer». Then the disciples understood that Jesus was referring to John the Baptist.

Today, Jesus Christ explains to us that the Prophet Elijah and John the Baptist had similar lives. In his time, Elijah defended with great energy the God of Israel - the true God – against all false gods that men had invented.

-John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus. But the men of this world do not recognize the men of God, nor do the arrogant ones of our Earth recognize the divinity of Jesus Christ. Jesus-God only asks you to receive Him with joy, just as the shepherds of Bethlehem did.
