August 14th: Memorial of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, Priest and Martyr
Gospel text
Jn 15,12-16
Jesus said to his disciples, «There is no greater love than this, to give one's life for one's friends».
Gospel's Commentary
Today we celebrate Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe. Being very young, he entered the seminary of the Franciscans. Great devotee of the Virgin Mary, Father Kolbe promoted the movement called "The Immaculate Militia" and a magazine dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. Maximiliano María spent five years as a missionary volunteer in Japan. Back in Poland, in the middle of World War II, he was captured by the Nazi regime. In Auschwitz, despite the terrible conditions of life, he continued his priestly ministry. - There he offered to die in the place of another prisoner, married and with children. Thus he imitated the example of Jesus Christ - the best friend! - who gave his life for us. You can also do something for men!
