Gospel's Commentary
Today we celebrate Saint Bonaventure (1217-1274). He was born near Viterbo (Italy) and being young he was impressed by the example of the Franciscans. When he entered the Franciscan order, he was assigned to study at the University of Paris. His focused his study and his thinking on Jesus Christ. Buenaventura was a priest of great wisdom. When he obtained at last the title of university professor, he was elected Superior General of the Franciscan Minor Friars. He was not yet 36 years old. The saint ruled the order of Saint Francis for 17 years, and for that reason he is called the second founder. -The 1273 Pope Gregory X wanted to consecrate Saint Bonaventure bishop and appoint him cardinal. He also asked him to prepare a very important ecclesial event: the Second Ecumenical Council of Lyon, dedicated to the restoration of the unity of the Latin and Greek churches.
