Gospel text
Mt 13,44-46
Jesus said to the crowds: «The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. The one who finds it buries it again; and so happy is he, that he goes and sells everything he has, in order to buy that field».
Gospel's Commentary
Today we celebrate the first saint (and patron saint) of the American Continent. In her baptism they named her Isabel, but because of her beauty they started calling her Rose. One day praying before an image of the Virgin Mary, it seemed to her that the baby Jesus said to her: "Rose, consecrate all your love to me." And from that moment she set out to live only to love Jesus Christ. At the same time, God made her understand that He was waiting for her while remaining at home. —And there, at her home, with her family (who didn’t understand her), she gave herself to the Lord virginally, working in the garden of the house and sewing. She died very young (31 years old) with many sufferings that she lived with joy.
