Liturgical day: Tuesday 10th in Ordinary Time

Gospel text (Mt 5,13-16): «You are the salt of the earth. But if salt has lost its strength, how can it be made salty again? It has become useless». Jesus said to his disciples, «You are the salt of the earth. But if salt has lost its strength, how can it be made salty again? It has become useless. It can only be thrown away and people will trample on it. You are the light of the world. A city built on a mountain cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and covers it; instead it is put on a lamp-stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine before others, so that they may see the good you do and praise your Father in heaven».

Today, the Master tells us all – not only the Apostles - that we are the salt of the Earth. Rock salt has much grit (1); this is why it is stored in small bags (2), which are put in the casserole (3). But if they do not improve the flavor, they are no good (4): and are thrown away (5), to be crushed by people (6). God’s children must transmit the "flavor" of the happiness of this life and the "light" of the road that leads to the eternal joy.

—How can we do that? By offering friendship, by being friendly, by always smiling, by helping others, by lending things...
— Lord, make it happen that all Christians are always like good salt, that gives taste and preserve corruption.
