Liturgical day: September 20th: St. Andrew Kim Taegon, presbyter, and st. Paul Chong and martyr companions

Gospel text (Lk 9,23-26): Jesus also said to all the people, «If you choose to save your life, you will lose it, and if you lose your life for my sake, you will save it». Jesus also said to all the people, «If you wish to be a follower of mine, deny yourself and take up your cross each day, and follow me. For if you choose to save your life, you will lose it, and if you lose your life for my sake, you will save it. What does it profit you to gain the whole world while you destroy or damage yourself? If someone feels ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Glory and in the Glory of his Father with his holy angels».

Today we commit ourselves to pray especially for the Church in Korea born about two centuries ago, with the conversion of a group of lay people to Christianity, thanks to a contact with Jesuit priests in China. When, finally, a priest was able to travel from China to Korea - which was isolated from the outside - a community of 4,000 Catholics was found there, without any priest. A short time later, there were already 10,000, and a great persecution broke out. Several thousand Catholic Koreans were martyred giving their lives for the faith in Jesus.

- "God does not lose battles" ... Those martyrs now see from heaven how their country is the region of the world where Christianity grows most: every year there are about 100,000 conversions.
