Gospel text (Mt 5,38-42): «You have heard that it was said: An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you this: do not oppose evil with evil; if someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn and offer the other». Jesus said to his disciples, «You have heard that it was said: An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you this: do not oppose evil with evil; if someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn and offer the other. If someone sues you in court for your shirt, give your coat as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give when asked and do not turn your back on anyone who wants to borrow from you».

Today Jesus' words disapprove "revenge." How bad sounds the saying 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth'! -If you hit me, get ready because ... How ugly! Unfortunately these are not things of the past: there are wars -even in families- that never end because there is no forgiveness.

"How do things look from the sky?" With mercy! God acts with infinite patience: look at Him, there you have it, on the Cross. His answer is forgiveness. So, if you want peace, you already know...
