Gospel text (Mt 8,18-22): “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other shore. A scribe approached and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” Another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” But Jesus answered him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”

Today a scribe launches with determined enthusiasm to follow Jesus. In fact, the Lord expects each one of us to take that decision. It may seem something too drastic, set aside only for some "enlightened"... But it is not so! It is not a question of going "very far". So where should we follow Him? Wherever we are: at home, at work, in our pastime...

"Where you do have to get very far is in love. But ..., in your life, in your home, in your school, do you have "nests" of selfishness and "dens" of comfort? He who hides, does not respond!
