Gospel text (Lk 19:45-48): Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them, “It is written, My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.” Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them, “It is written, My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.” And every day he was teaching in the temple area. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile, were seeking to put him to death, but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose because all the people were hanging on his words.

Today this serious warning from Jesus is a most timely one. The warning is still valid! In many areas of western society the sense of the sacred has weakened. In some places, weddings (or funerals, or First Communions) are more like a stadium (or a convention hall) than a temple. The less we pray, the more we talk!

-When Jesus became displeased in the Temple (2,000 years ago), He wasn’t yet present through the Eucharist. Now He is. Imagine what a disappointment for Him!
