Mt 5:17-37
Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill."
Gospel's Commentary
Today we witness Jesus speaking in a harsh tone. He addresses us all to defend us from the hypocrisy of some of the Pharisees and Scribes. They used to say that the Master moves us away from the Law of God rendered to Moses. What a false assumption! The Ten Commandments are always valid: to honor your parents, to not kill, to not steal… -But we men make all things difficult: when we act as those Pharisees did, we end up converting what are merely human laws into dogmas –and not always just ones- and we ignore the divine laws. And that is harmful, indeed!
