Gospel text (Lk 2:33-35):
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
Jesus’ father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Today Jesus is 40 days old. Mary and Joseph take Him to the Temple to present Him to God, as required by the Law. Yesterday (the 14th) Jesus told Nicodemus that the Son of Man had to be "lifted up”. Today, St. Mary will learn something more about this "ascent": it will be a path of pain, which will also reach her ("a sword will pierce your own soul").
- What are the feelings of your heart? Can Mary count on you?
