Gospel text (Mt 11:20-24): Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes..."

Conversion

Fr. Antoni CAROL i Hostench (Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain)

Today, we are much astounded at Jesus’ grievance. We can almost imagine Jesus Christ —Infinite Mercy— execrating these cities. But it is not anger as much as a cry of divine grief, because human hearts are rejecting God’s love.

Conversion is a must in our lives, because we are weak: we are "tainted" with the original sin! We should admit that we find it difficult to assume doing good and, consequently, we commit offenses. It is therefore reasonable to rectify, to convert oneself and ask our brothers and our Lord for forgiveness. If we do not do it, then, we perceive no more the love of a God that never stops loving.

—O Lord, I know you will never forsake me, not even when I offend You. Grant me a noble heart so that I do not fool myself into hiding my guilt. Give me the "courage" to let you forgive me. Do not let me get away from you because of lack of penance. I want rest in your mercy.
