Gospel text (Lk 9:51-56): When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled (…), he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” (…).

"Pathologies of the reason" and "pathologies of the religion"

EDITORIAL TEAM evangeli.net (based on texts by Benedict XVI) (Città del Vaticano, Vatican)

Today, Jesus Christ reprimands the Boanerges for their violent predisposition which is entirely unjustified. Without peace along with Faith and reason there cannot be peace in the World. The dissection and diagnosis of Faith and religion are deadly as they dry up the fountains of morality and justice.

The first of these use God to take on absolute power for them and identify what is unquestionable (Only God) within their own group or interests. In this case, good is at the service of power; the difference between good and evil begins to evaporate and justice becomes arbitrary. The dissection of truth, typical of totalitarian ideologies, breaks the bond between truth and God, with the intention —uselessly— of creating a new humanity. But when religion and morality are not longer considered truth, then man is at the mercy of “Production”.

—Lord, our certainty of being created by You defends us from the horror of a production man, (that will be destroyed as soon as his usefulness ceases), we are your children!
