Today we regard the Transfiguration mystery in its direct connection with the Cross. Moses and Elijah —the Law and the Prophets— appear in this scene talking with Jesus and about Jesus. Only Luke tells us the theme of their dialogue: the Cross, as Jesus exodus which should be fulfilled in Jerusalem.

Jesus Cross is a way out of this life, a crossing of the passion “Red Sea” and an arrival to his glory in which however the stigmas remain always printed. So it becomes clear that the fundamental theme of the Law and the Prophets is the “hope of Israel”, the exodus which definitely liberates.

—Moses and Elijah themselves become players and witnesses of the passion. With the transfigured Jesus they talk about what they had said while in the earth, about the passion of Jesus. However while they talk with Him about his passion it is evident that it is impregnated with God’s glory and develops into light, freedom and joy.
