Gospel text (Lk 9:57-62): As Jesus and his disciples were proceeding on their journey, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." And to another he said, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father." But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God..."

The hour of Jesus (the call)

EDITORIAL TEAM evangeli.net (based on texts by Benedict XVI) (Città del Vaticano, Vatican)

Today, in this scene we see that human existence is not undifferentiated (meaningless), but it has "depth": God calls man and His call is "peculiar". The response to this call has preference and it demands total surrender of our whole selves. It is not enough to just deliver part of oneself...

For the Christian it means there is an "hour of Jesus Christ", an instant that cannot be postponed, because it cannot be estimated, while saying: "Yes, I do, of course, but now...". Because I might as well unleash that instant which is "my" life and loose —precisely, because of this prudence— the authentic part of "my" own life, which can never be retrieved. There is the time of "the call", which requires an instant decision, the most important decision! Jesus’ reason and His call have preference: they come first!

—I ask my Mother the Blessed Virgin Mary to know how to respond well and in time as she does, postponing the "reasonable" before this "bigger" who is Him. Only in this way will I get really close to Him.
