Dear friend,

The death of Jesus Christ on the Cross is the center of creation. All of it shook at that hour: men with hearts not of stone but of flesh (first and foremost, Saint Mary); the earth (which trembled); the firmament (which darkened) …

There was also a trembling in the heavens: together with the Father and the Spirit, the angels. This is how St. John H. Newman saw it: "When they took off your clothes, your innocent body was humbly and lovingly adored by the elect angels: they surrounded you, in silent amazement, astonished by your beauty, trembling before your annihilation.” They had never seen the Son like this!

As a review of these fundamental events in our faith, we suggest reading "Jesus in the Sorrowful Mysteries", one of the texts published on “evangeli.net Subjects”, based on the meditation on the Holy Rosary. Access the text here:

Jesus in the Sorrowful Mysteries

May you join the angel who comforted Jesus in Gethsemane (while men slept)! May you be encouraged to associate with the "elect angels" who adored the recumbent Christ (while men avoided looking at Him)!

That was the supreme moment of the creation project, and Jesus is God's great gift to humanity. In the words of theologian H.U. von Balthasar, "God [the Father] has nothing more precious to give [to men]: throughout the centuries, he will give humanity this naked Body in every celebration of the Eucharist: Corpus Christi."

Wishing you a blessed Holy Week.

Greetings,

Fr. Antoni Carol Hostench (General Coordinator evangeli.net )
