Dear friend,

As we continue our journey through the “History of the Church through the Saints,” we now arrive at the 7th and 8th centuries—right in the heart of the Middle Ages. To bring this era to life, family.evangeli.net invites you to take part in our TRIVIA quizzes featuring five key saints.

In the West, following the fall of the Roman Empire, the Catholic Church firmly established itself as a pillar of civilization. One figure stands out in particular: St. Isidore of Seville, a great church leader and shaper of European culture.

Meanwhile, with the expansion of Islam and the rise of Arab rule, the age of the great Church Fathers came to a close. St. John of Damascus represents a unique example of a Christian shaped by the Arab world.

In theology, the great Christological and Trinitarian controversies were gradually receding. St. Maximus the Confessor courageously defended the human will of Jesus. At the same time, a powerful new missionary movement was born in Europe, led by St. Boniface.

Yet in the Eastern Church, the great iconoclastic controversy erupted: the Fathers of the Church—especially St. Theodore the Studite—stood firmly in defense of the legitimacy of venerating images of Christ and the saints.

This “History of the Church through the Saints” helps us appreciate the theological and missionary work of these holy men, even amid the great social upheavals of their times.

You can now participate and test your knowledge, here!

We remind you that the correct answer to each question is explicitly or implicitly found in the commentary on family.evangeli.net and even in the saint’s illustration. The brief explanations that accompany each correct answer are very helpful and contribute to the knowledge of the History of the Church and the saints.

Warm regards, The evangeli.net Team
