Dear friend, Benedict XVI once said, "God wants to reach people through people." Quite a challenge for God! The Christian FAITH has had to "struggle" intensely to make its way through the dense cultural fabric of history. In this battle for truth, the Holy Spirit and men (theologians and, above all, the saints) are constantly at work. After the bloody persecutions of Christians ended (A.D. 313), the 4th century became an interesting vantage point from which to observe this passionate struggle of faith: the Church grew in number of faithful and in the need to clearly convey the Word of God in the light of Jesus’ teachings. The mysteries of faith are supernatural but not irrational. Hence the need—as St. Augustine taught—"to believe in order to understand" and "to understand in order to believe": it is about delving into the mysteries without "destroying" them. A delicate balance that the learned saints have approached! The 4th century marked the beginning of the "Golden Age" of Patristics. Today, at family.evangeli.net, we have prepared a selection of TRIVIA quizzes from the "History of the Church through the Saints" featuring 7 Church Fathers. The "telegraphic history" at the beginning will give you a general overview. You can now participate and test your knowledge, here! We remind you that the correct answer to each question is explicitly or implicitly found in the commentary on family.evangeli.net and even in the saint’s illustration. The brief explanations that accompany each correct answer are very helpful and contribute to the knowledge of the History of the Church and the saints. Good luck!
