"I AM": The divine science in Christ
Fr. Antoni CAROL i Hostench (Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain)Today, we are submerged in the intimate ambiance of the Last Supper. Fully aware of the trial He is going to face soon, Christ strengthens the Apostles and, once more, He offers them evidence of His divinity. He presents Himself to them as the "I AM", with divine knowledge: He predicts "Judas’ betrayal" before it happens.
He is man! Since ancient times, no one else has been written about so much. We know His name, where and when He was born; we know His facts and words. He suffered till death (pierced by a spear, His death was certified without any palliatives). And He is God! Only God can say "I AM" (He had already used this “proper name” with Moses). God "is", with no need of qualifying terms, because His infinitude is boundless. Jesus sees all time as one “eternal present”. Without confusion, His divinity and humanity cooperate fully. A mystery not impossible for the infinite Being, powerfully incorporating the human nature created in His image.
—Jesus: because You are God, Your Spirit knew beforehand that it would suffer very much. I love You!
