Gospel text (Lk 10:17-24): ... At that very moment he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him...”

Who knows Father? (Simplicity)

EDITORIAL TEAM evangeli.net (based on texts by Benedict XVI) (Città del Vaticano, Vatican)

Today, we wonder who knows the Father and how is He known? Only the “Son” knows the Father, and all real knowledge of the Father is a participation in the Son’s filial knowledge of him, a revelation that he grants. Therefore, the only people that will know about the Father are those people the Son chooses to tell.

But to whom does the Son will to reveal him? The Son’s will is not arbitrary. The Son wills to draw into his filial knowledge all those whom the Father wills should be there: “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me so wills” says Jesus. But whom does the Father will? Not “the wise and understanding,” the Lord tells us, but the simple.

—O Lord, please take care of my heart so that I may plainly accept Your Revelation, avoiding criticism and sterile speculation, the outcome of my arrogance.
