Today —continuing with the parables of the Kingdom— we realize that the doctrine of Christ "enlightens" the whole world. But where do we see His Kingdom? Pilate asked that same question, but he sneered at the answer... Jesus proclaims the Kingdom "of God", not any kind of kingdom: He announces the living God, who is able to act concretely in the world and in history.

The new and totally specific thing about His message is that He is telling us: this is the hour when God is showing Himself in history as its true "Lord", as the living God, in a way that goes beyond anything seen before. His sovereignty transcends the "moment" and reaches beyond the whole of history. And yet it is at the same time something belonging absolutely to the present. It is present in the liturgy, in the Temple and in the synagogue; through the believer’s prayer and being.

—Your power, O Lord, is silent, but it constitutes the true sovereignty: Christ’s glory —the humble glory willing to suffer— has not disappeared… nor will it ever disappear.
