Gospel text (Mt 13:24-30): Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds. "The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat..."

God’s patience

Fr. Antoni CAROL i Hostench (Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain)

Today, Jesus, very realistically, acquaints us with the fight staged at the Kingdom because of the presence and behavior of an "enemy" that sowed "weeds" among the wheat. The owner’s servants wanted to pull them up, but he would not allow it.

This parable reveals the coexistence of good and evil in the world, in our life and in the Church’s own history. Jesus Christ shows us how to look at things with Christian realism, while confronting each problem with clear principles, but also with caution and patience. This implies a "transcendent" (supernatural) vision of history, which tells us that everything belongs to God and that any final outcome is the consequence of His Divine Intervention.

- O God, Father and Lord of mercy, make the memory of the final destination of the good ones (the gathering of the wheat in the barn) and of the evil ones (the burning of the weeds) prevent us from mistreating your patience.
