Today's Gospel + short theological explanation
God's call and men's answer (the Christian vocation)
EDITORIAL TEAM evangeli.net (based on texts by Benedict XVI) (Città del Vaticano, Vatican)Today, we consider that salvation requires man to open himself with faith to Christ's grace, which however demands an exigent condition: «Come and follow me» (Mc 10:21). The saints have had the humbleness and the courage to answer "yes" to Him and have given up everything to be His friends. Their only treasure is in heaven: the Lord.
To understand this is the fruit of wisdom which is more valuable than silver and gold. It is a gift from God and we can obtain it through prayer. This wisdom did not remain far from man, it approached his heart, taking the shape of the Law of the first Covenant sealed between God and Israel. This Law was given by Moses: it is necessary but not enough…, because salvation —holiness— comes out of the grace through Jesus Christ.
—Peter and the other Apostles, and uncountable friends of God, have followed this evangelical path, which is demanding but fulfils the heart, and they received “one hundred times more”…, for there are no impossible things for God.
