Today's Gospel + short theological explanation
The faithful secular in the People of God
EDITORIAL TEAM evangeli.net (based on texts by Benedict XVI) (Città del Vaticano, Vatican)Today, we see a group of followers of Christ broader than the specific group of the Twelve Apostles. There, in this group of "sent", are both the Twelve - to be "faithful ordained" or priests, after the Last Supper-, as well as a large group of "non-ordained faithful", meaning the ordinary faithful Church laity. There are not two "classes" or "categories", but two ways of belonging, through Baptism, to the only "people of God" led by Christ.
The relationship between these two modes of "incorporated" into the Church should be understood from the relationship of trust between "pastor" and "flock", meaning the same as the term "people of God": people dedicated to God who is on a pilgrimage, throughout history.
—Being secular is the normal way of being Christian and living the Gospel addressing everyday issues of this world. To embrace and transform the world in Christianity: behold the true apostolate of the laity!
