Gospel text (Jn 12:1-11): Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him. Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Worshiping God

Fr. Antoni CAROL i Hostench (Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain)

Today, Jesus Christ is having dinner at the home of his friends Martha, Mary and Lazarus, in Bethany, near Jerusalem. Jesus, the Son of God is, at the same time, truly a man: He needs to spend time with his friends, and expects men to love him. He had just restored Lazarus to life. Now we can see Mary —his sister— cleansing the Lord’s feet. He accepts and supports this sign of affection.

God is Love. He only wants our good. We are only happy when we discover that Jesus loves us. Man is man when he worships God, that is, when he speaks and listens to him, when he recognizes that He is great and accepts Him as his Creator. Irrational animals could never do so.

—O God! I kneel down before you, because you are my Lord. Without you I am nothing. I do not wish to live without you. Saint Mary, do not let me go away from your Divine Son.
