Today's Gospel + short theological explanation
The Holy Trinity: God is not a solitary being
Fr. Antoni CAROL i Hostench (Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain)Today, Saint John speaks to us of God's infinite love. He loves us so much that He has sent His only Son, and has let us in on the “intimacy of his family”. We now know that God is not a being in existence on His own; He Himself is three Persons; the Father, the Son and The Holy Spirit. Jesus little by little, spoke to us more and more about His Father in Heaven and of the Holy Spirit. They were not different “Gods” but one and the same God.
This is the greatest mystery of the Christian faith: God is the Holy Trinity. A fact that we could never have know if left only to reason. But at the same time is reasonable that God would be like this. To love is to give oneself to “another”; if God was not three divine Persons then, how could He be infinite Love?
—O my God, How great you are! You share with me the infinite beauty of your being, and I can only understand You in a very limited way. You give me much more that I am capable of receiving. I love you o Holy Trinity.
