Today, we wonder: why does Jesus not oppose His detractors?, why did He not substantiate with irrefutable verve that He is the Resurrected one?, why did Jesus reveal himself only to a small group of disciples, whose testimony we are now to trust?

It is proper to the mystery of God to behave in a discreet way. He builds His own story within the great history of mankind only very slowly. He becomes a man, but in such a way that He is ignored by His contemporaries and influential forces in history. He suffers and dies and, as the Risen One, He wants to come to humanity only through the faith of those who are His and to whom He reveals himself. Is this not precisely His divine style? God does not overwhelm with external power, but gives freedom; He offers and elicits love.
