Today's Gospel + short theological explanation
The common good: the good of every man for all mankind
EDITORIAL TEAM evangeli.net (based on texts by Benedict XVI) (Città del Vaticano, Vatican)Today, the words announced by the prophets and concretely fulfilled in Jesus – according to his own testimony – speak about the need of God’s grace (help) for the good of the humanity. The Social Doctrine of the Church coined the concept of “common good”, stressing it as a moral imperative.
There can be no full development without spiritual and moral good of mankind, considering a person in his totality of soul and body. On the other hand in a society on the process of globalization the common good and the effort to achieve it must necessarily cover all mankind which means the community of all peoples and nations, thus giving unity and peace to the “city of man” and turning it in some way an anticipation which prefigures the “city of God” without barriers.
- Therefore the Social Doctrine of the Church has come to define the “common good” as the good of every man for all mankind.
