Gospel text (Mt 6:24-34): Jesus said to his disciples: “ (...) Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them."

Children of God: Trust in Divine Providence

Fr. Joaquim MESEGUER García (Rubí, Barcelona, Spain)

Today, Jesus comforts us in the worries of life that, more often than not, overwhelm us and cause us to lose our peace. He does it by showing us that God takes care of us, that we shall lack nothing we need, and that this is why what matters is to work for the Kingdom of God and His justice.

We have been created by Him and He promised us never to forsake us. We can, therefore, be sure our life is in good hands. If our Lord has foresight and takes care of our world and its creatures, all the more reason for Him to take care of His children! In our life we must worry about —but not be tormented by— our problems, because we know God is with us, takes us with Him and comes with us.

—O Lord, God of goodness, give us your love and the things we need to live with dignity; make me trust your Providence, and teach me how to share with the rest the goods you so generously have provided us with.
