Gospel text (Jn 17:1-11a): Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, “… Glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began. I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world… and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me...”

The Son of God, sent by the Father

Fr. Antoni CAROL i Hostench (Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain)

Today, we can look into the heart of Christ and, stunned, marvel at the immensity of the panorama we discover on occasion of this colloquy with His Father. An infinite and unending panorama, for their intimate oneness soars back to… "long before" the creation of the world. For Christ happens to be the very eternal Son of the Father.

From the Father, who spiritually begets Him, stems as the eternally begotten Son. And from the Father also stems from time, for He has been sent to the world with the mission of "pulling us" from the world. This mission is like a continuance in time of His filial provenance from the Father.

—Holy Father, thanks to your love, your Son’s filiation has been "extended" into His redeeming incarnation. I want to be your son through your Son. Let me be it, with the help of the Holy Spirit, Your Divine Love, which has been spilled in our hearts.
